Intraindividual and interindividual variations in psychomotor task performance in spontaneously menstruating women.

چکیده
OBJECTIVE To examine the variability in psychomotor task performance in women in reference to the menstrual cycle. METHODS One hundred and eighty young women with spontaneous regular menstrual period of 30 days duration and 20 young men were assessed in the Department of Pharmacology, College of Medicine, Al-Mustansiriya University, Baghdad, Iraq during 2003. RESULTS Women had significantly lower recognition as well as motor reaction time than men with wide inter and intraindividual variations. Women also had a lower critical flicker fusion frequency threshold than men with more variation. The changes in psychomotor performance are not specific for a certain phase of the menstrual cycle. CONCLUSION Spontaneously menstruating young women are not good participants for psychomotor performance studies because of wide intra- and interindividual variations.

Short-time windows of correlation between large-scale functional brain networks predict vigilance intraindividually and interindividually.
A better understanding of how behavioral performance emerges from interacting brain systems may come from analysis of functional networks using functional magnetic resonance imaging. Recent studies comparing such networks with human behavior have begun to identify these relationships, but few have used a time scale small enough to relate their findings to variation within a single individual's ...

متن کاملGenetic control of interindividual variations in the inducibility of aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase in cultured human lymphocytes.
Interindividual and intraindividual variations in aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase (AHH) induction by 3-methylcholanthrene were studied in cultured lymphocytes from normal adult volunteers. Using eight pairs of monozygotic and eight pairs of dizygotic twins, we examined to what extent these variations are controlled by heritable factors and whether AHH inducibility correlations in an individual wit...
متن کاملSome sex hormone profiles are consistent over time in normal menstruating women: implications for sports injury epidemiology.
PURPOSE It is unclear whether sex hormone profiles obtained in two consecutive months are consistent within women. Month-to-month consistency in daily, nadir, peak and mean hormone concentrations during the early follicular and luteal phases in recreationally active, young eumenorrheic women was prospectively examined. METHODS 60 healthy, non-smoking women who reported normal and consistent m...
متن کاملIntraindividual Variability in Domain-Specific Cognition and Risk of Mild Cognitive Impairment and Dementia
Intraindividual variability among cognitive domains may predict dementia independently of interindividual differences in cognition. A multidomain cognitive battery was administered to 2305 older adult women (mean age 74 years) enrolled in an ancillary study of the Women's Health Initiative. Women were evaluated annually for probable dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) for an average of...
